Interview With Mommypages.com

I thought Id share a interview that I did with a amazingly popular go to parenting site called www.mommypages.com

Nursery Decorating Advice

Setting up baby’s nursery can be a very special thing for Mommy and Daddy. Fine artist Ashley from “Ashlyn Rose Design” who specializes in custom nursery paintings shares her advice for decorating a nursery.

Tell us more about yourself, your family, and “Ashlyn Rose Design”. What can readers find on Ashlyn Rose Design?

I’ve been married to my husband for 6 year and we have 2 adorable daughters (ages 3 & 5). Being a stay-at-home mom has been amazing!  I love spending time with my kids and watching them grow.  As a full time mom, I also needed to find some “me time” .   I have always had a creative eye, but I didn’t exactly know how I was going to use my creative niche until one day when I picked up a paintbrush to paint a monogram for my daughter’s nursery.   From that day, I’ve completely fallen in love with painting!  It has become a part of my every day and I am so grateful that I have been able to turn my art into a paying job! The best part is, I get to work from home so I don’t have to miss too much time away from my kids.  I created my site Ashlyn Rose Design to display and sell my work for people all around the world. You can also visit me at my Etsy shop or www.facebook.com/AshlynRoseDesign

What made you want to become a fine artist? From where do you often find inspiration for your paintings?

I never knew I was going to be a artist until the last few years.  I’m so happy I have explored the art world. I learn something new with each and every painting I make.
All my paintings have some kind of personal story behind them and each one is special to me in its own way.  Each piece is usually reflected by my mood and what’s going on in my life at that time.  So depending on the day some paintings may be bright and colourful and cheery and some days it might not be. I pull my inspiration a lot of the time from photographs I’ve taken, sometimes it’s intuitive and other times it is following the request of what my clients want created.  I do a lot of nursery decor orders for new moms, but I also focus on modern work for the rest of the home such as floral, landscape, cityscape, trees, nature, intuitive abstract, figurative, and impasto texture style paintings.   My absolute favourite way to paint is with modeling paste, my palette knives, metallic and acrylic paints.   I also work with interior designers, collectors, businesses, such as restaurants, spas, and offices as well as individual clients and I decorate their personal home spaces with my artwork.

Many of your custom paintings are wall art for nurseries. What tips do you have for picking out the right pieces of wall art for a nursery? What should parents consider when requesting a design?

Decorating a baby’s nursery is so much fun!  It could also be intimidating for new moms who aren’t too sure where to start.  A painting is a great way to personalize and give a final touch.
To get a good understanding for both me and the mommy-to-be,  I always ask my clients a few specific questions at the beginning of our consultation:
1) Are you decorating for a baby boy or girl?
2) Do you want to go with a specific theme?
3) What colors do you like and don’t like?
4) Where do you plan to hang your painting? ( this way we can figure out the right size canvas to use )

Can you share some nursery decorating advice for moms?

My best advice would be to go with a style or theme that will grow with your child as they get older.  Stick with a simple, neutral, and modern feel.  This will save you from having to redecorate too often.  Don’t go too overboard with a theme, just add simple touches throughout the room, that will give much more of a elegant impact than having too much of  one thing.

A few famous celebrities have purchased some of your designs! What was exciting about having someone famous purchase your paintings?

I was very fortunate to be invited to a two day gifting suit event in Hollywood.  I was very humbled by the experience.  To be able to show my work to them firsthand and meet in person was something I never could imagine happening. But it did!  Going to Hollywood was a amazing experience; it gave me the boost of confidence to keep on painting and to follow my dreams!   You can visit this link here to see a few of the great people I met.

In person this painting is really beautiful as the light picks up on the deep tones and reflects the small touches of copper throughout.

Princess Kate Middleton Inspired Crown

I just wanted to share a really fun painting I did for a lovely client & expecting mom over at www.pbjstories.com  This painting made its travels safe and sounds from Canada to Virginia Beach.  It is a very large painting 24 x 36 inches- done on canvas board and professional Acrylic paints.

The inspiration for this painting came from the crown Princess Kate Middleton's wore on her wedding day.  Its not a exact replicate but the shape, style and inspiration I used came from the one she wore the day she married Prince William.

Pamela was looking for something with a vintage and chic style with soft colour's. I used a few different shades of grey, dusty rose, vanilla, silver and some soft pinks.

I used a palette knife for parts of this painting to achieve a textural and dimensional look and feel.

I think her final nursery reveal turned out absolutely gorgeous. So happy that her baby girl to be gets to look up at my painting when she is in her crib, hope it makes her to feel like a real princess!

Make sure to check out the entire nursery www.pbjstories.com

Do you like this painting?....

I can change the colour's to match your decor and I have many different canvas sizes to choose from.

Painting For Sale- Noelle

Have you ever had a really vivid dream that had you wondering after you wake up, and all day long what the meaning behind it was?
Well, I have been having strange dreams the last year or so, and I actually have been keeping a dream journal to see the patterns that are happening.  The older I get the more real they seem.  Sometimes I'm really spooked, but the latest particular dream I had really stuck out to me.  There was a real calmness and I could not get this one out of my mind.

Have you wanted to explain your dream to a friend the next day, but it just doesn't make sense to other people?

Have you ever been greeted by a angel or as some would say your spirit guide?

Whatever your belief's may be, I had a women visit me a few weeks ago.

Meet Noelle.

She was wearing a beige fitted coat, had long beautiful hair, she reached her hand out to greet me she told me her name.  It was Noelle. She was very peaceful.  She told me she had to tell me something very important.  I was not able to distinguish her facial features.  It was very obvious this women came to visit me in my dream for a reason.  We were supposed to meet.
I told my husband about it, I could not get this out of my head for a while. So I thought for fun I would attempt to bring her to life through a painting. This is exactly how I remember.

I'd love to hear your about your dreams that stand out to you...

Please feel free to share in the comments.

A New Year

2012 was a huge year for Ashley Bridger Designs. I thought Id recap my year for fun to see the progress. I started my year off last January with a trip to Hollywood with my mom and sister to showcase my art to celebrities at a two day gifting event, right before the Golden Globe Awards.
Throughout the year I have been lucky enough to place my paintings in the hands of these celebrities and have still been communicating with a few of them and working on paintings for their own homes.  I recently shipped a few to California this past month!
I got to meet some amazing people like Nancy O'dell, Jillian Michaels, Gilles Marini from Sex & The city, Some Young and the restless stars to name a few...
I also pinch myself because one of my paintings was showcased in the People Magazine.  I never in a million years though that could EVEN be possible, you never know what could happen in life!  I have to say that was a pretty cool way to start the year out.
Through the year I have had numerous and steady commissioned orders, I've become a part of a amazing local  business networking group and I've grown so much with my style and knowledge of painting.  I started out at the beginning with doing just nursery decor and now I have a wide range of different style paintings from nursery to home decor.
I cant wait to see what 2013 brings! Check out a glimpse of my trip to LA :
